What’s your favorite thing about

Russ & Daughters?

The history. It’s not only my family’s history. This place is a piece of New York history, and it plays a part in the personal histories of so many of our customers.

What’s your favorite food here?

It’s a tough job, but someone has to taste all of that caviar.

Tell us about a memorable occurrence

at Russ & Daughters.

A cellist visiting from Australia came in for the first time. He ended up taking out his cello and playing the most beautiful rendition of Max Brecht’s "Kol Nidre." The entire store fell silent and everyone who was here at that moment was completely mesmerized. Something memorable happens here almost every day. That’s why we had to start our blog.

What does the store mean to you?

Tradition. Soul. New York.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Attend art and cultral events, practice yoga, read The New Yorker, try to meditate and get outdoors.

What are some other favorite spots on the Lower East Side?

Doyle & Doyle for their exquisite collection of estate jewelry. Bereket for great and easy Turkish food 24 hours a day. The Essex Street Market where the old world and new world come together in this historic marketplace. It’s a fabulous place to shop for produce.
