R & D Debuts on Web TV

Josh Russ TupperJosh Russ Tupper, 4th generation, “Most Easy On the Eyes Fish Monger,” as awarded by the New York Press in 2004, now has 8 more minutes of fame under his belt! He is the host for two web TV spots on TURNHERE.COM. His first web-film was a short tour of New York’s Lower East Side, the area where Russ and Daughters is located. This film was a featured link on MSNvideo.com. He then returned as the host for a short film, focusing exclusively on the Russ and Daughters store.

Josh was pursuing a career in chemical engineering until 2003 when he decided to join his family’s historic business. Josh also lives in The Lower East Side.

2006: A Caviar Odyssey

Last October’s moratorium on exporting caviar from the Caspian Sea has left both experienced and first time caviar buyers wondering what their options are. Buyers should be aware that much of the Caspian Sea Caviar still available on the market was harvested before the ban. While there was a limited quota for Iranian Osetra (Persicus), we do not feel that the quality merits the exorbitant prices. Russ and Daughters customers can feel very good knowing that they are going to the source for the finest and freshest caviar.

For the 2006 season, Russ & Daughters has acquired a limited supply Caviarof the exquisite Siberian Osetra from Uruguay. This glistening caviar has an pearly, firm texture, which reveals a complex and nutty flavor on the palette. These sturgeon, from the subspecies Acipenser Baerii, are sustainably raised in natural and exacting conditions. State of the art technology is used to select and process the eggs, ensuring the highest quality and the most beautiful beads. But don’t wait until December 31st to place an order! Production quantities for the 2006 Siberian Osetra harvest are small.

Recently awarded 4 stars by American Express’ Departures Magazine, our American Osetra is a winner. It’s also the top choice of the many chefs we work with. Hailing from the sturgeon subspecies Acipenser Transmontanus, this caviar closely resembles the flavor and appeal of Caspian Sea caviar. Each bead is wonderfully mild and lingers long enough to give you that sublime caviar experience.

For those looking for excellently priced alternatives, the American Hackleback and Paddlefish caviars are the perfect way to ring in a new year.
